RTA Launches Major Upgrade for Burj Khalifa–Dubai Mall Metro Station

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced a comprehensive design-and-build improvement strategy for its most iconic Burj Khalifa-Dubai Mall Metro Station as part of the authority’s efforts to improve connectivity, capacity, and overall experience within the commute of a traveler. The project, which contractor bids are scheduled to open up in January 2025, marks a key milestone in RTA’s vision for next-generation transit infrastructure.

What to Expect Station Expansion & Accessibility

Among the numerous changes to be made to this busiest Red Line station under Downtown Dubai is:

Brand new three-story entrance to replace the current “pod” to link directly with:

  • The Dubai Mall pedestrian bridge
  • The Rashidiya-direction platform

Lift and escalator improvements:

  • Addition of 3 hydraulic lifts and 4 escalators at the main entrance
  • 2 additional lifts and escalators serving the UAE Exchange (Sheikh Zayed Road) platform

Expanded concourse:

  • New link to the pedestrian bridge
  • 10 retail units to enhance commuting convenience
