Official Announcement: UAE to Enjoy Three-Day Holiday This September

Although the announcement was made a while back for Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) Birthday (12 Rabi Al Awwal), it is now a confirmed public holiday for both government and private sector employees on Friday, 5 September 2025, therefore marking the birth of another cherished three-day weekend, what with Friday being next to Saturdays-and-Sundays.

Why Friday, 5 September Was Chosen

The proclaimed date for Eid is determined by lunar observations. As the crescent moon of Rabi Al Awwal was not sighted on 23 August, this year the observance of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, PBUH, was declared for Friday, 5 September. The date was conveniently selected, which gives residents of the UAE a long-awaited extra holiday.

What Does This Mean for Residents?

This renewed interval of rest will allow UAE residents, both public and private sectors, to reflect and reconnect. The three-day holiday offers:

  • Spiritual reflection on the Prophet’s legacy.
  • Long weekend travel, leisure, and bonding with family and friends.
  • An extra opportunity for families to build cultural traditions or simply recharge from the rush of life, spend some quality time with family, or share some laughter and fun at the end of the year.

Additionally, this extended break can be another excuse for businesses, schools, and organizations to plan better and ensure employee well-being.

Planning Ahead: Why Does This Holiday Matter?

This new announcement is like a gentle reminder of the UAE’s equilibrium between cultural reverence and resident welfare. The way an important religious day has been assigned the holiday, right on the weekend, shows that organization is indeed smart and boosts social cohesion as well as quality of life.

These long weekends, along with those just coming up—like the National Day holiday on 2-3 December for UAE—really are a fresh breath of air.
