As the UAE squares its shoulders to continue its ascent in the global space sector, it announces two new initiatives: a new space mission close to a specialized training program. The fact that both aspects occur simultaneously indicates that the country intends to pursue ambitious exploration as well as talent development at home.
The New Space Mission: Plunge Deep into the Cosmos
The UAE Space Agency today announced its first-of-a-kind deep-space weather study mission. In collaboration with NASA, the mission involves launching a state-of-the-art satellite aimed at providing refiner insight into the dynamics of solar activities and cosmic events.
This cooperation strengthens the relevant pillars on which the UAE is now standing with respect to space technology capability. It goes towards the greater understanding of our solar system and protects the infrastructure of space-based platforms from the damaging effects that solar flares and other phenomena do cause. Develop the Next Generation Space Engineers
To support this mission and the future projects, the UAE launches a Space Mission and Satellite Engineering Program (SMSE), a full-fledged initiative on Space Missions and Satellite Engineering. This ten-week course is sponsored jointly by the National Space Academy (an initiative of the UAE Space Agency) and the octogenarian technology giant, EDGE.
For Emirati professionals, researchers, and fresh graduates currently grappling with their coursework in STEM areas alone, the comprehensive program introduces in-depth hands-on training in:
- Space Mission Design: Development from a concept through to final integration and operation.
- Applied Space Systems Engineering: Practical application of engineering principals to space technologies.
- Space Mission Operations: How to run and execute a real-world mission.
The interactive part of the curriculum consists of live technical training, supplemented with online modules, and on-site visits to key aerospace facilities in the UAE. It aspires to build a highly skilled workforce of Emirati engineers, system architects, and mission leaders who will take the country forward in its dreams of space exploration.
